Atomlab musings from a long-time dealer

“I’ve been a dealer for Biodex Medical Systems, Inc. since the late 1980s,” states Mark R. Gravengaard, president of J. Gravengaard Corporation. “Over that period, the Atomlab product line has continually grown and improved. Their new Atomlab 960 Thyroid Uptake System, however, is a huge leap forward in terms of its overall design, user friendliness and ease of operation. The system is intuitive and easy for the user to grasp.

“You can tell that Biodex wanted to make this system simple to set up and scan patients. It comes on a pallet, rolls down a ramp and requires minimal effort to fully install.

“The Atomlab 960 Thyroid Uptake System seems to be especially well thought out. The sleek, functional design, fit and finish comes together very nicely. It seems Biodex carefully considered exactly what the equipment is supposed to do, not simply how it functions. That’s an important distinction. The system takes up comparatively little floor space. The stand itself provides specific storage positions for a Thyroid Uptake Neck Phantom, Calibration/Constancy Fixture that holds a 10 uCi Calibration Check source, and an optional well counter.

“Smartly compact, the Atomlab 960 Thyroid Uptake System design ensures repeatable positioning for uptake studies, and is simple and comfortable for both the patient and user. The 2″ x 2″ Nal (TI) detector articulates as needed on a height-adjustable counterbalanced arm. The ease of positioning using an LED and an accurate distance bar assures accurate, repeatable patient positioning and uptake measurements.

“There are a lot of little things about the design of the Atomlab 960 Thyroid Uptake System that are easy to overlook but really make a difference in the long run. The 1024 multi-channel analyzer, for example, is contained within the detector as part of an integral unit. The new design ensures reliability. Another new feature is the optional DICOM interface software which helps users process data, streamline workflow and reduce the possibility of data entry errors. The software interfaces seamlessly with the department’s DICOM workflow. Technologists can choose studies off the patient list and send the uptake report to a PACS system without having to leave the clinical program. The DICOM software also allows the user to simultaneously display thyroid images with the uptake report. This saves time and, viewed in a single frame, the number of images can be chosen according to department practice.

“A primary benefit of working with Biodex Medical Systems, Inc. is that they provide superior support for their products. The Atomlab line has a time-proven track record of reliability, and all models still receive full backing from the Biodex service department. The technicians at Biodex are friendly, knowledgeable and just a phone call away for help with your service and application needs.”
