Patient Selection/Entry
- Add, delete and edit patient data on one screen
- From patient selection list – select patient and
go directly to repeating test or exercise session or to print a report
for a specific test
Protocol features
- Favorites – Preserve the on-board pre-installed
protocols, while
proving the user a place to retain all “custom” protocols
they may create.
- Select, create or edit test or exercise protocols on
one screen
- Select from 35 different joint, pathology clinically
documented default protocols
- Assign unique names to all protocols
- Protocols can be created for Isokinetic, Isotonic, Isometric,
Reactive Eccentric or Passive mode
- Protocols can be concentric or eccentric contraction
specific
- Protocols can be set up to end by: reps, time or work
- Link protocols for all modes for automated multi-mode
operation through all phases of rehab
- Pathology specific linked protocols for a complete rehab
session of passive ranging through to strengthening
Reports
- Six unique report formats
- NEW Exercise Summery Report – a graphical representation
of the patient’s status, progress and outcome over time. Plot
Strength, Pain, ROM, and other user definable measures from the patient’s
test and rehab history.
- Graphical Evaluation
- General Evaluation
- Comprehensive Evaluation
- Progress reports
- Narrative cover letter
- Isomap
- Graphical Evaluation is a simple report that uses color
graphics to depict comparisons of peak torque between involved and
uninvolved muscle groups as well as to population normative values
Report provides ability to type specific comments a legend facilitates
understanding
- General Evaluation includes the most commonly request
numeric data to accompany color graphic data depiction Ability to comment
is also available, as is the legend
- Comprehensive Evaluation provides data for 19 parameters
in addition to a torque curve for each set
- Narrative cover letter is a form letter where the user
can select certain phrases to describe the patient’s performance
and rehab status
- Progress Reports are available in the Graphic, General
and Comprehensive report format Progress report compares performance
on one date with another
- Isomap reports provide data from a three speed bilateral
report
The Isomap report illustrates using color intensity where the patient
is having difficulty in relation to ROM, speed and contraction

Database Manager
- USB ports allow the user to copy, move or delete patient
tests and protocols to or from floppy diskettes, USB “thumb” drives,
read/write CD ROMs, Zip Drives or other computers if on a network.
It can be used to back up a complete patient directory.
- Enhanced patient Database sorting – simply search
by entering a name, portion of a name or initial.
- Includes the ability to set-up unique patient databases
so that patient’s
/test subject can be separated. A popular feature when a Biodex is
used in research.
Normative Data
The System 4 includes normative data values for peak torque
to body weight ratios, as well as agonist to antagonist rations for most
commonly referenced joints and protocols.
Normative data is compiled from published documentation.
Advanced Applications
- EMG Analog Interface Software
Through the Remote Access port is an output of analog signals of
velocity, torque and position data in real-time directly from the
motor control Digital Signal Processor (DSP). In addition to the
real-time data, a synchronization pulse is issued whenever the
real-time data is updated
The synchronization pulse can be used by the monitoring equipment
to know when the real-time data output has changed. Output Frequency,
or update rate up to 2000 Hz. Four scaling values allow for optimal
signal resolution
- Research Tool Kit
The System 4 Researcher Tool Kit is a proprietary software package
that gives the advanced user customized motor control, movement tracking
and data analysis
The Researchers Tool Kit gives the advanced user
- Front Panel Control Emulation - Full set of controls as available
on the front panel, with the addition of finer adjustments such as
setting speed to any increment of 1 deg/sec, and setting torque to
any increment of 1 ft-lb
- Additional Control - for data monitoring and system controls, only
previously used by the System 4 application
- Remote Access Port control - for the analog signal output, defines
the scaling of velocity, torque, and position. In addition, the update
frequency rate can be specified, along with the output mode, for example,
the mode can be set to output the analog signals only when the System
4 is in an active state (START, not in Hold or Idle).
- Data Download for Motion Control - a user provided data file of positional
data can be downloaded to System3, and executed to follow a custom
pattern of motion Tools such as MATLAB (from The MathWorks),
MathCad (from MathSoft) or Prism (from GraphPad Software) can be used
to generate these pattern files
