Biodex is involved in an exciting initiative in the area of Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) and new hire physical capability testing. Biodex has been selected by two highly respected and prominent leaders in the areas of Occupational and Industrial Medicine, Tom G. Mayer MD, PRIDE and Thomas B. Gilliam, Ph.D. of Industrial Physical Capability Services (IPCS), to bring forth a new combined program that will take advantage of the objective value of the Biodex Multi-joint System. The ultimate goal is provide a more effective FCE solution and new hire evaluation program.
Ed Behan, Biodex's Director of Market Development, is very excited about the potential. "This is an example of innovation benefiting everyone in the process; the injured workers, their families, the companies that need better solutions for workers comp, the payers and the providers. When something benefits everyone in the chain - it will grow and all will see increased economic gains. This is another example of the added value that Biodex System owners provide as they expand their service offerings."
Tom Gilliam of IPCS has been using Biodex for a long time in his program. The IPCS program has a network of over 500 providers in 47 states and Canada. IPCS actually contracts with Biodex's installed base of S3 and S2 users to provide testing for IPCS clients.
"Obtaining defensible, objective, reliable and valid data are critical components when performing physical capability strength tests to industry. The Biodex Isokinetic System provides my company, the quality control we need to satisfactorily provide new hire and return-to-work evaluations."
Tom Gilliam, Ph.D., President, IPCS
PRIDE is proud of their Biodex testing area. They have two Biodex System 4 Dynamometers dedicated to Back and Lift testing, plus a System 3 for Extremity testing. The PRIDE Research Foundation has recently completed Lift normative data study for use in the program.
"In testing patients' physical capacity after occupational injuries, objectivity is the most important and relevant factor. The Biodex strength and lift testing with isokinetics provides more objective data than observational methods that
are often used currently."
