Ann Marie Alessi, Product Sales Manager, Nuclear MedicineThe Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) announced Ann Marie Alessi, BS, CNMT, NCT, RT(N), FSNMMI-TS, product sales manager of nuclear medicine, Biodex Medical Systems, Inc., Shirley, New York, has been elected to serve as President for the Technologist Section of SNM. Biodex joins the society in wishing Alessi great success and looks forward to her contributions to the society over the next year as she aims to improve member communication.

The slate of new officers was recently announced at the SNM's 2011 Annual Meeting, June 4-8, in San Antonio. Alessi says, "One of my main goals as president is to really engage with the members, sharing with them the new SNMTS programs and listening to their feedback on how to continually improve the society." To accomplish this, Alessi and the society will sponsor "roadshows" for those unable to make it to larger society meetings. "The goal for the roadshows is to offer a meeting to technologists for continuing education in parts of the country that would not usually have the opportunity to host a meeting," she explained. Also, at chapter meetings the society plans to have a consistent leadership presence.

As President, Alessi says she will focus on professional development for technologists and will continue efforts to provide the most up-to-date, relevant continuing education—particularly on PET/MR—available for technologists at SNMTS meetings. She will also cultivate the Technologist Advocacy Group (TAG) team to ensure the SNMTS is at the forefront of state licensure issues in order to help members. Additional goals include assessing the feedback for an SNM name change and participating in the Image Wisely campaign.

Alessi has received many honors and awards for excellence in the field of nuclear medicine. She graduated as valedictorian of the nuclear medicine technology program at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Northport, N.Y., and is a retired first sergeant for the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corp after serving 24 years.

SNM, Reston, VA, has more than 17,000 members who are engaged in molecular imaging and nuclear medicine practices.
